Newly Declared Major Advising
Students declaring a history major must attend a New Advisee session before being eligible to register or attend future pre-registration advising sessions. You can make an appointment for a session while declaring your major, or come to the Department (Garinger 226) to sign up. You will receive a confirmation with further information. See Becoming a Major/Minor for further details
Pre-registration Advising
The Department holds pre-registration advising sessions the week before and during the first week of the Registrar Office's designated pre-registration periods; with select make-up advising days during the remainder of the period. All history majors are notified per campus email of the exact dates and times; these are also posted on the department bulletin boards.
It is highly recommended that you attend these sessions. Students with questions about their record that do not need immediate attention are kindly requested to defer these advising periods
2100/4000 Courses
These courses are restricted to History Majors Only .
- You may only register for 4000 after completing 2100
- You may register for only one section per semester
Flags and Holds
The Department places a registration hold on all newly declared majors and majors reaching senior status. Newly declared majors can have their hold removed by attending a New Advisee session (see also Becoming a Major/Minor). Seniors are highly encouraged to meet with an advisor during the pre-registration advising period to check their graduation status. They may however seek a waiver of such a meeting at their own risk and responsibility.
Teacher Licensure Forms
Dr. Oscar Lansen, the Undergraduate Program Coordinator, only signs off on the Application for Student Teaching during the first week of pre-registration advising (applications for yearlong internships are handled exclusively by the Office of Field Experiences). You may leave your orange form, together with your transcript and email address with the Department Secretary. You will receive an email upon their completion.
Permission to pursue History Honors or Internships
Permission may be sought any time. Please contact Dr. Oscar Lansen, the Undergraduate Program Coordinator. Students arrange independent studies directly with their professor
Transfer Credits and Transient Studies
You can check if courses transfer to UNC Charlotte through the Transfer Credit Advisor . Students intending to take courses for credit at other institutions while enrolled at UNC Charlotte need to seek prior approval by submitting a Permit for Transient Study form, available at the Registrar office. Be aware that transfer credit awarded does not alter your GPA.
Academic Probation
Students placed on academic probation should contact Dr. Oscar Lansen, the Undergraduate Program Coordinator, for a counseling session at their earliest convenience , as this is a potentially serious situation that does not take care of itself. During the meeting you will receive practical information about the remediation of your Grade Point Deficit, as well as a calculation of academic performance needed to return to good standing or to avoid suspension.
