The Common Market – In Spring 2015, students were visited by Mr. Blake Barnes, the founder-owner of The Common Market, a successful, offbeat independent Charlotte retail business, founded in 2002.

Dr. Seymour Drescher – In January 2016, our visiting speaker was Dr. Seymour Drescher, distinguished university professor emeritus from the University of Pittsburgh, a leading authority on the history of slavery and abolition.

Hugh McColl – In March 2016, students in our history of capitalism courses were addressed by Hugh McColl, the former chairman and CEO of Bank of America, one of the most influential builders of modern Charlotte, NC.

Marlene and Glen Jones – One highlight of the Fall 2016 semester was a presentation by Glen and Marlene Jones, of Main Street Management Group, LLC. Here, the Joneses are pictured with Dr. Gregory Mixon and Dr. Akin Ogundiran, along with Mr. Bryan Gable, a history MA candidate who was the Dowd-sponsored teaching assistant in 2016-17.
