Patterson Paper Prize

Annual Patterson Memorial Prize
for best undergraduate and best graduate paper

Named in honor of a late colleague, the Department of History awards a $100 prize annually for the best undergraduate and the best graduate research paper.  Your name will also be added to our memorial plaque in the history department.

To be considered for this honor you must:

  • Be an undergraduate or graduate history major in good standing
  • Have written your paper for a history course during the current academic year (summer, fall, and spring; cross lists with history courses accepted)
  • Submit a paper copy to the department (electronic submissions will not be considered)

Undergraduate majors: submit your hardcopy paper, including your name, 800 #, home address, and email address to Dr. McKinley (place in his mailbox).  Limit: one submission per student.

Graduate majors: submit your hardcopy paper, including your name, 800 #, home address, and email address to Dr. Haynes (place in her mailbox).  Limit: once submission per student.

Submission deadline is the Tuesday of Spring exam week, 5:00 PM, Garinger 226.

Winners will be notified by email the following Monday.
